What is Reiki?

Reiki has roots in ancient Japanese healing practices and is considered an alternative method of healing using energy. It stems from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning vital life force energy.

The theory is that a Reiki practitioner can channel the “universal life force energy” to you, a pet - anything. This can be done by either lightly placing their hands on you or by hovering them just above you, using a series of hand positions.

There are many varieties of Reiki; however, I have studied and use the Usui Method. (Mikao Usui was the founder of Reiki)

What is Animal Reiki?

The same Universal life force is offered but in a few different ways. Animals are much more in-tune to the life force energy than most humans and are therefore sensitive to is.

While some animals will allow the hands-on approach, many prefer a more “in-person” approach where the practitioner is in the vicinity but not touching. Some move farther away while some fall asleep during a session. Others respond better to a session where the practitioner is not in the room at all. Which brings us to Distance Reiki.

What is Distance Reiki?

Practitioners invite the animal to connect energetically through intention and visualization. This can be done using a photo of the recipient or simply by focusing on them mental

During a distance Reiki session, the practitioner sends healing energy by invoking the distance symbol. This energy can help clear blockages, promote relaxation, and facilitate emotional and physical healing and encourage communication.

What Reiki Can Do

The method that I use works under the premise that Reiki knows where to go and what to do.

Your pet may share with me his or her wants and needs; where there is pain and discomfort, or sadness, anxiety, fear.

Since Reiki knows where to go and what to do, the knowledge I gain from your pet help me focus MY intention on those specific areas, sort of adding an extra “boost” to the Reiki energy.

What You May See from Your Pet

During or after a session, your pet may be happy, bouncy, perky. In some cases, the pet completely relaxes and has a good sleep.

How long the energy flow lasts is partly up to the pet and can last hours, days, or even weeks.
